Stars United still in running for league title
Stars United Stays on the Chase of Super League Tittle after defeating Pull Together FC on Sunday at Giant stadium.
Stars United scored a 4-0 victory over past Pull Together FC at Soshanguve Giant Stadium last Sunday.
It was clear in the opening minutes that United, second in the table, were intent on puttig fifth placed Together to the sword.
They created their first chance with only a few minutes but their red hot striker, “Salah” Makabokwe, probably still warming up, missed.
Together were not very together in those opening moments that soon they gave Makabokwe another chance, which he took with an easy tap in.
Soon, it was 2-0, when Makabokwe converted a penalty.
Together tried a few long range shots looking for a way past the steady United defence, but would not test the keeper.
In the second half, Stars gave Together all sorts of problems without actually increasing the scoreline until the last ten minutes. Then they suddenly struck twice in quick succession pretty much as they had done in the first half.
Eddie Nkuna, who came on as a substitute for United, started the final push for his teammates but also took a few shots himself, the closest of which whistled over the crossbar.
Then Makabokwe turned provider creating the third for his team before United made it four in the dying minutes of the match.
United coach Carlington Gore said his team had worked hard from the lower division last year through to Super League.
“There were some mistakes in the beginning but we corrected them as the game continued,” said Gore.
“We played as a team, which is why we won.”
United captain Lucas Radebe said they wanted to carry the momentum into their next game against Movers at the weekend.
Together coach Karabelo Nhunzana said they needed to improve quickly.
“There were a lot of communication errors and it seemed like the focus had shifted,” said Nhunzana, adding the referees decisions had also cost them.
Together captain said: “We have shortages of players due to injuries. We could not even make a substitute. We played trying to avoid injuries ahead of the next match.”
