Festival of Running goes from strength to strength
The past weekend's Festival of Running, which was hosted at SuperSport Park in Centurion for the second time, attracted hundreds of athletes who participated in the different races at this famous cricket stadium.
A multitude of eager runners took part in the second annual Stor-Age Festival of Running event this past weekend at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
It seems that this unique event increases in popularity among athletes and it was again a huge success, with great weather and a festive environment.
SuperSport Park came alive as runners and their families made their way to the stadium to compete in the various races or to simply soak up the festive atmosphere.
The festival consisted of three different race categories, tailoring the experience to the runners’ abilities. All three categories, which included the Solo Challenge, Relay Challenge and School’s Challenge, consisted of laps around the stadium and along the grass embankments to complete a 2km route.
Pierre Joubert, Commercial Manager of SuperSport Park said they were absolutely thrilled with the turnout at the second edition of the festival.
“Runners from all over Gauteng were treated to good weather as they enjoyed the experience of running 2km laps in and around SuperSport Park. I would especially like to thank all the runners and our event partners who came out and made it such a success. I am excited at the prospect of this event becoming a regular fixture on the running calendar in the years to follow,” said Joubert.
Rudolf Rossouw was the overall winner of the 18km Solo challenge event, completing the race in 57:46 minutes.
The winning relay team was Beefcor in the corporate sector, Eldoraigne in the social sector and Nedbank Skosana Development in the club sector.
The overall winner in the Schools Challenge were the boys under 16 to under 18 from Hoërskool Eldoraigne, who completed 19 laps.
The planning of the 2019 Stor-Age Festival of Running is already underway and set to take place on 8th of June next year. According to Joubert running enthusiasts can look out for even more fun and excitement at next year’s event.
