North teams appeal for proper sporting facilities

Various sporting codes in Mabopane have appealed for proper sporting facilities.
Every weekend players of various sporting codes are at the grounds competing for different honours – but the ground is a hard dirt surface.
Odi Stars treasurer Isaac Mongale called on the city council to make money available to improve the pitches.
“There is a need to lay a lawn on our pitches. Our players continue to give their best under the most difficult conditions,” he said.
He appealed to the municipality to get involved in sports development from grassroots to help build healthy, winning communities.
“Equity, access and development are key themes in this regard and should motivate youths of all sporting bodies, regional bodies, local sports clubs, recreational clubs and schools to participate in sport.”
He said with the current state of pitches players were prone to injuries.
Pitches at Odi, Nomonde, Ditshego, Queens, Bana and Letlotlo sports grounds were all in a bad state.

Mongale appealed to the metro to allocate a budget to fund soccer and netball teams.
“This will enable more people to become involved in sports and recreation and assist disadvantaged communities.”
He said decent sports pitches would help keep youths off the streets and from the life of crime, drugs and other negative influences.
“I live and dream football. If we do not have a game, I am glued to the television screen watching the beautiful game,” said youthful Odi Stars coach, Nkosinathi Mahlangu.
“I learn a lot from the other teams, tactically and technically.”
“I think there is enough talent in the country. The problem is the coaches who are given the job to select the best players do not know how to utilise or how to pair those players.”
He said the technical team had to analyse the strength and weakness of each player to determine how best to use them.
Stars finished second in the table behind Maa Waa FC.
“I’m very proud of the work I have done for the team. Even our juniors are doing well in their respective divisions,” he said.
The Stars consist of under-11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 squads.
