World Cup Roundup: Spain, Argentina and Portugal out but Russia dream on
Host Russia have eliminated 2010 World Cup champions Spain from the tournament and will now face Croatia in the quarter-finals.

Croatia should have sewn it up in extra time when Jurgensen pulled down Ante Rebic who had already rounded Schmeichel.
The hero turned villain was lucky to escape with a yellow and was saved from a shooting squad when his keeper saved the spot kick.
In summary, both stoppers were brilliant in the sudden death lottery, but full marks to Croatia’s hero of the hour Danijel Subasic, the toast of his nation.
However, it would be hard to see Croatia going any further in the competition based on this match.

In other rounds of 16 matches, Lionel Messi and Argentina were eliminated from the tournament after they lost 4-3 to a dominant French team.

Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo also booked a plane to Lisbon shortly after as Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to produce his magic. It was two goals from Edison Cavani which gave Uruguay a place in the quarter-final.
