Hatfield surprises at inter-high swimming gala

The Hatfield Christian School’s achievements prove that they are busy to establish themselves as one of the best Swimming schools in Pretoria.

At the recent A-league inter-high swimming gala, Hatfield Christian School (HCS) achieved an impressive third place for the co-ed schools competing in this league, losing only to Hoërskool Menlopark and Cornwall Hill College.

This was the best HCS has ever done and their performance was quite remarkable given the huge difference in size between HCS and competitor schools. Hatfield swimmers went all out and came home with a host of medals. Amy Stanford won the u.15 freestyle and backstroke, and broke the records in both of these events.

Daniela Marggraff received gold for the u.15 breaststroke and butterfly, while Robin Terblanche swam to a third place in the junior individual medley. The u.15 girls relay team consisting of Robin Terblanche, Daniela Marggraff, Amy Stanford, and Kirstin Snyckers who won the medley relay in a new record time, and were narrowly beaten into second place in the freestyle relay. Hatfield’s boys also had much to be proud of. Gareth Stanford walked away with silver medals for the u.15 breaststroke and butterfly, while Jean-Michael Cornelius swam to a second place in the u.15 breaststroke. Matthew Charles achieved a third place for the u.17 breaststroke.

The schools coaches believe their accomplishments attest to the fact that the school is fast establishing itself as a bastion of swimming in Pretoria. The future of swimming at Hatfield definitely looks bright.
