Two titles for Gauteng North at Young Seniors tennis tournament

Two teams from Gauteng North were crowned champions in their respective divisions at the recent Young Seniors Interprovincial Tournament (IPT) in Bloemfontein.

Two teams from Gauteng North won titles at the recent 2017 Young Seniors Interprovincial Tournament (IPT) in Bloemfontein.

There were 186 players making up 37 teams representing 11 regions of the country that participated in the annual tournament with Boland, Western Province and Gauteng North taking home the most team trophies, two each in the seven age groups played. Hosts, Free State also took a title.

The tournament for men and women was played in the 30+, 40+ and 45+ age groups at the Free State Stadium and University of Free State tennis courts.

Sharon van der Schyff, Tennis South Africa (TSA) manager of seniors tennis, said that the tournament was a great success.

“We received so many compliments on the organization of the tournament. The players really enjoyed themselves and other than a coldish start to the tournament, the weather was nice and hot, and very little rain disrupting play. The tennis was of top class standard too,” said Van der Schyff.

Gauteng North won the 30A Cup as well as the 40 A Cup.
