Virat Kohli and his Indian cricket team gave South Africa’s Proteas a proper cricket lesson in the second One-Day International match of the current series between the two countries played at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday.

India won the game by 9 wickets and now lead 2-0 in the series of six one-day internationals, after also winning on Thursday in Durban.

The game was over in the second over after lunch.

South Africa’s batsmen have failed spectacularly and were bowled out for only 118 runs. JP Duminy and Khaya Zondo were the top scorers for the Proteas with 25 runs each. Hashim Amla (23), Quinton de Kock (20) and Chris Morris (14) were the only other batsmen who could reach double figures. The rest of the batting order simply collapsed with attempts of eight runs (Markram), two single run knocks (Morkel and Rabada) and three ducks (Miller, Tahir and Shamsi) among them.

The strange way cricket remains unconditionally committed to rules and regulations, although it does not always makes sense and even goes against any logic, was again emphasized in this game.

After India won the toss and sent South Africa in to bat first, the Proteas were bowled out in the 33th over. It was decided to continue almost immediately with India’s innings and then brake later for lunch at the scheduled time.

When that time came, India needed only two runs to win the game, but the umpires insisted that match had to be interrupted for lunch.

Play was interrupted for 30 minutes, after which the teams had to come back to finish the match. Only nine balls were bowled after the break when Kohli eventually scored the winning runs.
