Tuks beat CUT and move away from relegation threat
Nollis Marais's medicine apparently worked and on Monday night Tuks won a Varsity Cup match for the first time this year.
With one good victory on Monday night the beleaguered Tuks rugby team moved from last place on the Varsity Cup log to a safer seventh position outside the relegation danger zone.
After the management of the Tuks Rugby Club intervened last week by calling in the help of Nollis Marais to take over the reins at the team, they won their first game in the Varsity Cup tournament this season by scoring eight tries against CUT to win 54–26 in Bloemfontein.
The men from Pretoria were finally allowed to express themselves with ball in hand and after a slow start they took control of the game.
For CUT the loss means that they are damned to eighth on the table and considering their recent form, it probably means they will be contesting not to be relegated to the Varsity Shield.
The men from Bloemfontein did score four tries in the clash though, meaning they at least walk away with a consolation bonus point, with means they sit on six points with a three-point buffer between them and the last-placed Madibaz.
Marais’s team would have drawn confidence from this performance. They will need it in their match next Monday against UJ, who will luckily be played on their home ground in Pretoria.
