Local professional wrestler crowned as Rookie of the Year
Young professional wrestler of Pretoria, Ashton Heyy, was recently crowned as the African Punishment Wrestling Association's Rooky of the Year.
The African Punishment Wrestling Association’s ‘Nex Gen Destruction 2018’ tournament was recently hosted in Johannesburg and a professional wrestler from Pretoria was crowned Rooky of the Year at the event.
The young professional wrestler Ashton Heyy (21) from Pretoria took part in the ‘Fatal 4 Way Match’ at the tournament and after being named winner in this battle he could boast the title of Rooky of the Year.
Heyy defeated opponents like Maverick, Autumn and RJ in the quadrangular fight.
According to Heyy he has been dreaming of this big match since he started out his wrestling career in 2016 and he trained very hard for the event.
Heyy, who certainly was the spectators’ favourite in the battle, took the opportunity to show his skills as he battled it out to make it to the end and score the win.
“I’d like to thank all my fans, my family and my coach, Ananzi, for supporting me when the opportunity arose. I dedicate this win to the youth of South Africa, as I believe in reaching your dreams,” an emotional Heyy said after his victory.
Experts of the sport describe Heyy as ‘energetic and hardworking as they come’. His coach is regarded as one of South Africa’s best all round performers.
“He does not fear a single soul and will not back down from any opposition. His goal is simple and that’s to wipe out his foes with his speed and velocity. He is one for the future indeed and shows promise as he quickly adapts to many different styles,” said one of the experts of professional wrestling at the tournament.
