Cipla gives flight to its promise of ‘Caring for Life’ in the SPAR Women’s Challenge
The staff of the pharmaceutical company Cipla will again participate in large numbers in the SPAR Women's Race Pretoria this year.
The 2018 SPAR Women’s Challenge theme is ‘Find your wingz’ – a theme that is challenging every member of the Pretoria community to find their wings by being a vehicle for change and inspiration.
This is the third consecutive year that Cipla staff will be entering the SPAR Women’s Challenge.
Cipla is a global pharmaceutical company which uses cutting edge technology and innovation to meet the everyday needs of all people across more than 80 countries. Their internal staff wellness team truly embodies the spirit of a healthy body and life.
“We enter the SPAR Women’s Challenge year after year as it is first and foremost a very well-organised event which gives people a chance to get some exercise, irrespective of their level of fitness. It is one of the most exciting and fun events on our annual wellness calendar,” said Melanie van Jaarsveld, Manager – Communication and Wellness.
Cipla is also the first pharmaceutical company to provide a triple combination anti-retroviral (ARV) for HIV/AIDS sufferers in Africa at less than one dollar a day. Cipla does not just provide South Africans with world class medicines at affordable prices, but also a world where affordable healthcare is a right, not a privilege.
“In our world the final measure of our success is simple – the privilege of advancing health care for all,” Van Jaarsveld explained.
Cipla Medro’s social enterprise division, the Cipla Foundation, drives a number of corporate social responsibility initiatives that give wings to children all over the world.
Projects include Ajuga which constructs early childhood development centres where young children can learn, grow and thrive in a safe environment. Owethu focuses on providing access to a broad range of primary healthcare services to communities most in need. The Cipla Miles for Smiles initiative funds corrective surgery for children born with cleft lips and palates, while Sha’p Left is a nurse-surgery driven, primary healthcare service that treats people close to home in their communities.
