Athletics Gauteng North postpones AGM indefinitely

Athletics Gauteng North's president issued a statement last week to explain to stakeholders the way forward for this sport in Pretoria.

The COVID-19 crisis has not only hampered the schedules of athletes and sportsmen, but sports administrators also need to reorganize their diaries.

After many requests from Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) member-clubs and other affiliates, about the status of AGN events and the organization’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), John Mathane, president of AGN, issued a statement last week to clarify matters.

The AGN board confirmed that all events still remain postponed or cancelled until further notice. The AGN board members has decided to postpone the AGM, which was scheduled for 14 May 2020. The decision has been made for the safety of club administrators and employees and is in accordance with the updated guidelines from the national Disaster Management Act, which states that all gathering is banned in relation to the crisis.

AGN will send a notice about the postponed AGM when a new date has been decided.

According to AGN, they are also still awaiting feedback and further information from the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation about the announced Covid-19 relief assistance. The department is apparently still waiting for approval and they will inform all sports federations in Gauteng once it has been acquired.

AGN has undertaken to inform athletes and officials in this regard as soon as feedback has been received.

John Mathane, AGN president van AGN, appealed to all stakeholders in the athletics community to engage in a strategic manner and to handle the current crisis with care and patience, while continuing to observe the Covid-19 regulations.

For any further information, please contact AGN’s office on 012-327-4930.
