Protea shooter from Pretoria does it again

Several marksmen from Pretoria once again counted among the top performers during the past weekend's Air Rifle Field Target League Competition in Heidelberg in the south of Gauteng.

The Air Rifle Field Target League Competition hosted by the Mildots Air Rifle Club just outside Heidelberg took place in perfect conditions on Saturday 26 February. Although it was a tough course, the absence of wind and the welcome shade ensured some excellent scores. Mildots Chair Dave Crouse and his team built a challenging, enjoyable course – a good thing as the nationals are taking place at the end of March with only one more league competition hosted by Inyathi Air Rifle Club north of Pretoria before then.

Wian Strydom from Pretoria again emerged on top with a score of 47/50 following his overall win at the North West Field Target Open at Hartbeespoort Dam earlier in February. Jan Steydler from Centurion was the runner-up with 46/50 and Alan Keyser won the shoot-out for third place after drawing even with Proteas Cor Swanepoel from Pretoria and Machiel Basson from the East Rand with a score of 45/50.

Bon voyage

It was a bittersweet day for Protea Sean Orsmond from Johannesburg and his many shooter friends, as it was his last league day shoot in South Africa before emigrating to England. He will be sorely missed.

The past weekend’s Air Rifle Field Target League Competition in Heidelberg was also the farewell to this shooting community of Protea Sean Orsmond. He is moving to England and will be sorely missed.

The Inyathi Air Rifle Club league day is taking place on 15 March followed by the 2022 South African Nationals hosted by Saftaa (SA Field Target Airgun Association) on 19, 20 and 21 March at Kommandonek Resort near Hartbeespoort Dam. The Proteas will then compete in the 2022 Internationals in Italy in August. South Africa is the host of the 2023 Internationals.
