Football festival planned for young and old in The Reeds, Centurion
Whether you're older and just want to play football on a social level or you're a youngster hoping to be noticed by talent scouts on the football field, The Reeds Talent Upliftment football festival, to be held in Centurion next weekend, is the place where you need to be.
Football, or soccer, as it is also popularly known, is by far South Africa’s most popular and largest sports code in terms of participation as well as support by spectators.
Football is played across the country at every possible level. Yet there are certain regions where the opportunity to play football on a social or any other level is surprisingly small. The west and southwest of Centurion is definitely such a region with few opportunities at school or club level for footballers.
A company that has grown out of this community has meanwhile decided to do something about this situation. Therefore, Rodrigo Entertainment from The Reeds will be hosting a football festival on the weekend of 25 and 26 June, with which they are going to try to address several shortcomings and problems in one project.
Rodrigo Entertainment believes that their project can ultimately achieve many goals, for the social upliftment of the environment, but also to create long-term opportunities for football participation among all age groups.
The event will be presented at Kolgans Park in Rooihuiskraal Road, The Reeds.
On Saturday 25 June, a unique youth football festival will be presented with a view to establishing a permanent football club for the area.
A few schools in the area have already promised their co-operation, but all are welcome to come and participate. Participants can enter teams for a 5-a-side competition or individual interested parties are welcome to enter and will then be divided into teams.
Teams will be divided into age groups ranging from preschool age to senior high school boys.
The process will be repeated on Sunday 26 June with senior (adult) players, especially with a view of establishing a football club for the area.
On both days of the football festival, stalls with food, drinks and other applicable goods will be available on site, while secure parking with car guards will also be available at designated spaces around the park.
A DJ and various artists will provide entertainment to everyone present through the course of this weekend’s festival.
Both day’s proceedings, which will include several matches, are scheduled for 09:00 in the morning until 16:00 in the afternoon.
