Outsurance Pointsmen to the rescue

Mobile Pointsmen have been appointed and will soon ease the heavy traffic congestion in Pretoria.

Traffic woes will now be a thing of the past in Centurion, thanks to the newly launched Tshwane Outsurance Pointsmen in partnership with Outsurance Company.

The project will focus on easing traffic congestion in roads such as Nelmapius and Main, Amkor and Botha, Uitsig and Kestel and Estcourt and Goshawk streets in Centurion.

The Tshwane Mobile Pointsmen initiative first saw the introduction of Traffic Freeflow’s pointsmen in June 2011. The team has since grown from 30 pointsmen to a staff compliment of approximately 63 members.

It has been indicated that the strengthening of the pointsmen will create noticeable difference in traffic management and increased visibility during peak hours amid road constructions taking place in the city. The project will also make it possible for the metro police officers to focus on high-end priorities and by-law enforcement, according to the statement.

Peter Cronje, head of marketing at Outsurance said the initiative has been in operation for almost eight years and has now been extended to the city, with the aim of solving traffic congestion and all traffic problems that exist.

Addressing attendees, Colleen Bekker, CEO Traffic Freeflow said when the concept of the public private partnership was conceptualised eight years ago, never did they dream of the magnitude of the success of the project due to a shared vision between the stakeholders and the passion of employees.

Pheladi Gwangwa, station manager of 702 and also media partner said community safety for the city is very important and that it will make a difference to motorists.

Executive mayor councillor Kgosientso Ramokgopa said the city is going through major changes and that this will improve the lives of the citizens. He further said everyone will benefit from this initiative and congratulated the pointsmen who come from different regions in Tshwane which include Centurion, Mamelodi, Attridgeville, Hammanskraal, Mabopane, Soshanguve and Tshwane CBD.

All pointsmen, comprising of Tshwane youth, underwent the process of interviews, screening and vigorous training at the Tshwane Metro Police Department.
