Beware of bogus property agents, warns City Property
Tenants are being warned against bogus property agents.
Bogus agents are targeting prospective tenants in the city. The warning comes from City Property managing director, Jeffrey Wapnick.
“These ‘agents’ pose as City Property employees and are in possession of a vacancy list, complete with the company logo on it. They show the victim a vacant unit and take deposits from them,” Wapnick said.
He said prospective tenants should forward any questions they may have directly to building managers and not through an agent.
“To secure a property, money must be paid into an official bank account and any correspondence should be with a building manager and not a third person.”
All City Property leases are signed and money paid on site at the company’s head office in Du Toit Street. This is the normal procedure for all property agents. Wapnick said the public should make use of reputable companies.
