LIMPOPO – Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathabatha has urged people not to take the law into their own hands following the recent killing of South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) Provincial Deputy Secretary, Ronald Mani.
Ronald Mani, the Deputy Secretary of SAMWU Limpopo and a shop steward in the Vhembe District Municipality, was shot dead in Tshisaulu outside Thohoyandou last night.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba together with the MEC responsible for Community Safety, Makoma Makhurupetje has established and dispatched a task team to the area to investigate the circumstances around that particular incident. General Ledwaba will personally visit the area and will accordingly make sure no stone is left unturned, says the premier.
ANC in Limpopo have also condemned the senseless murder of their fellow comrade and said they are particularly concerned about the ongoing attacks against comrades of the local government sphere.
They further call on the enforcement agencies to ‘move with the necessary speed’ and to arrest the perpetrators of these deeds.
The shooting of Mani follows the recent shooting of Timson Tshililo, who is both a member of the ANC and a leader of NEHAWU, in the same area a week ago. He is recovering well at a hospital.

The Premier has further urged the community not to speculate and derail police investigations which are at the highest level. “Let’s not take the law into our hands and allow the police space to unearth the circumstances behind the recent spate of shootings in the region,” the premier concluded.
