Mother and daughter duo has motorcycling in their blood

The mother and daughter duo aims to win titles and promote the sport under women.

POLOKWANE –  Morongoa Mahope says her love for riding began at a very young age. “About three years ago a friend of mine urged me to get involved in riding superbikes and taking part in competitions on the short-circuit. I already loved riding, so to take part in competitions seemed to come naturally to me,” she explains.

Morongoa says when she took to the track for the first time, there was no holding her back and she has ever since loved taking part on the short-circuit track. She believes the sport can still grow in the number of women who take part.

“It is something I would definitely recommend to all women, because it is a fast-paced sport with an adrenaline rush. It’s also great fun to take part in,” she says. Morongoa recently took part in SuperBike Mag Short Circuit Series in Polokwane in the 250cc category.

She aimed for a position on the podium but had to settle for fourth place.

When Morongoa is not on the track taking part in races, she is a financial consultant with a lot of responsibility and riding helps her lower the amount of stress she says.

Morongoa recently started to ride a 600cc bike and wants to get more serious about it. She has thus far only taken part in regional races but hopes to gain more riding experience and to compete in national races.

She’s the mother of three daughters and her middle daughter has been riding with her for just over a year.

“I do not mind speed, it is great fun and something I can do with my mum,” Tsholofelo says.

The mother and daughter duo aims to win titles and promote the sport under women. They would like to see the sport grow in the country and urge women of all ages to join a club with whom they can ride and find their passion for riding with.
