THE University of South Africa’s (Unisa) Limpopo campus hosted the 2013 Eski’a Mphahlele Memorial Lecture at The Ranch Resort last Friday.
Some of the guests who attended the event included dignitaries like South African poet, Prof Keorapetse Kgositsile, who paid homage to the late prof Eski’a Mphahele.
The theme for the lecture was: From Actual Experience to Characterisation: Eski’a Mphahlele’s Down 2 Avenue and Mrs Plum.
Kgositsile demonstrated how Mphahele dealt and responded to aspects of real life in his work. He said Mphehele’s actions resulted in major developments in African literature. Some of the honourable guests who graced the occasion were MEC for education, Dikeledi Magadzi and Unisa vice chancellor and retired judge president, Bernard Ngoepe.
Unisa’s regional director, Prof Ralebipi Semala said the Eski’a Mphahlele Memorial Lecture had blossomed into one of the biggest events not only within Unisa, but also in Limpopo.
