POLOKWANE – The owner of KFC branches in Polokwane, Tim Bourdillon gave back to the community by donating R75 000 through their Add Hope Campaign to the Come Together CBO’s Consortium.
The handover ceremony was held in Mankweng last Thursday at Itumeleng Drop-in Centre.
Bourdillon said the money will be used in the nutrition scheme of children accommodated in nine drop-in centres in Polokwane.
He gave credit to his customers as they added R2’s for Hope when they bought at KFC.
“Adding hope to the hungry children of South Africa is as easy as adding R2 to your meal. All you need to do is ask our friendly staff to ‘add hope’. This R2 will go towards feeding a child from one of our 90 beneficiaries across the country. Every cent of your donation goes to making sure every day these children have nourishment to grow and learn and thrive,” he said.
The Add Hope CSI Trust administrator of KFC, Lindy April, who was present at the handover, said since the introduction of Add Hope in 2009, they had been able to raise R183 million.
“So far this year, just under R31,6 million has been raised through Add Hope, of which our customers have donated R16 million and our franchisees almost R15,5 million. Every cent of every donation goes towards feeding a hungry child. Every time you ‘add hope’ with your R2, you’re making a real difference in the life of a hungry child in South Africa. The Add Hope campaign supports 11 national beneficiaries and 90 smaller community initiatives around the country. Beneficiaries including childhood development organisations, children’s homes and school feeding programmes are added every year,” said April.
“We take a proactive partnership approach to supporting their feeding programmes and because our primary focus is on feeding, the beneficiaries need to ensure the funds we give them will be used to feed children from birth to the age of 18. This includes on-site feeding and food parcels that are sent out to families. They must have a valid NPO certificate and need to have been operating for at least three years.”
Pastor Abram Maila of Come Together CBO Consortium said the donation would be used to provide nutritional meals in nine drop-in-centres under their care in the Polokwane area. They are: Itumeleng Community Drop-in Centre, Ramogale Ratabana, Refiloe, Thakgalang, Lerato la bana, Modiane, Botshabelo, Arise and Shine and Sedibeng Drop-in Centre.
“We are very grateful for the sponsorship as education can’t go well is learners don’t have food. KFC is taking part in the development of poor rural children and we are privileged to be a beneficiary of the Add Hope Campaign.
We want to impact the lives of the underprivileged by giving hope to the needy, destitute, orphans and the vulnerable children in and around Polokwane. Thank-you KFC for enabling us to Add Hope,” said Maila.
