ANC calls on gr. 12 parents to create conducive studying environment

THE ANC in Limpopo has appealed to the parents of gr. 12 learners writing senior certificate examinations to create a conducive environment for studying.

Thousands of learners have registered to write senior certificate examinations in the province. According to the department of education, some 83 597 full-time learners were registered in 1 414 centres and 16 995 private candidates registered in 291 centres to write the examinations.

“Parents should therefore create an environment conducive to studying by removing any unnecessary distractions, as learners need to remain focused at this time,” ANC provincial secretary, Joy Matshoge, said.

Learners in the province started the academic year on a sour note, as the department had failed to deliver textbooks on time.

Others spent the first and second quarters without learning materials, prompting teachers to make copies of textbooks from neighbouring schools. Grades that were affected were mostly those on the implementation phase of new curriculum.

“We are aware that learners and teachers faced a daunting task this year due to the devastating shortage of study material. We urge all learners to use all their free time to prepare in order to study effectively. It is indeed parents who play the most vital supportive roles during this demanding time.”

The ANC thanked teachers and principals for their commitment and dedication in supporting learners.

“We hope and believe that the class of 2013 will surpass the class of 2012, raising the Limpopo flag high. They will definitely make us proud like in the past years,” Matshoge concluded.
