POLOKWANE – There has been new developments at Stanford Lake College (SLC) regarding recycling in the past year.
According SLC’s marketer, Rona McGaffin, five new recycling stations were established around the school with two new large colour-coded bins: Red for waste and yellow for plastic.
Waste paper is still collected in dedicated bins in all offices and classrooms. On the other hand, recyclable waste is taken to a central area from where it is collected by a recycling company from Tzaneen.
Gr. 12 learners, who are on the school’s environmental committee, raised awareness about recycling and encouraged proper sorting of waste.
“We have greater efficiency of collection and sorting of waste and improved awareness in the school.
“The result is less waste for disposal in the Tzaneen municipal landfill and a contribution towards conservation of the earth’s resources,” said McGaffin.
