POLOKWANE – The National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa) held their annual provincial long-term service teachers awards ceremony at Pemps last Wednesday afternoon.
The awards ceremony was held to honour teachers in the province who have been teaching or serving the department of education for a long period of time.
Naptosa is a teacher’s organisation that values its teachers and strives to promote the ongoing professional development of its members. The organisation has always held the view that the teacher was the most important factor in achieving quality teaching and learning in schools.
The national teaching awards are one of the ways in which the department of basic education publicly acknowledges and encourages dedicated and caring teachers.
The long-term service awards were awarded to teachers who have been teaching for as long as 40 years. This year, the organisation awarded teachers who have been teaching for 20 years to 40 years.
Joe Mashigo, the Naptosa provincial secretary who presented the awards said it was important to recognise teachers who had served the country for years.
“Teachers mould children into responsible grown-ups and they deserve recognition for that”.
Anetta Potgieter was one of the award recipients who received a long service award for 30 years of teaching.
“I am very happy to be here today and receiving this special award, and happy that teachers are recognised and appreciated by Naptosa.
This encourages us to work even harder and stay in the teaching field,” said Potgieter.
