THE much-awaited and spoken about launch of Venda Porn in Thohoyandou failed to go ahead as planned on Monday, due to immense pressure brought to bear by tradit-ional leaders and the Munna Ndinnyi (Men’s Forum) and others.
Zwoluga Madega, the brain behind Venda Porn, failed to make his appearance at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre where a large crowd of young women, some of whom were still of school going age, awaited him, with their R150 entrance fees, to do interviews for a part in his new movie.
Waiting at another venue to find out whether auditions would go ahead, were several traditional leaders led by an angry chief Luvhaivhai Tshivhase, and members of Munna Ndinnyi led by Baldwin Mufunwaini.
According to Mufunwaini, parents should put their daughters under surveillance so that they did not involve themselves in the “sins of sex”.
“If it is such a good business, why is his wife not acting in that porn movie? We have copies of his DVD and it is surprising that neither Madega nor his wife is seen in the movie. So why does he want our children involved?” Mufunwaini asked vehemently.
“We need our children to respect their bodies and have morals. We are building a society and we want to produce real men and women,” he added.
Madega told CV that he was stopped short when protests against his movie were received from Tshivhase and other traditional leaders, the police, the South African National Civic Organisation, the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa, church leaders, the law fraternity, traditional healers, Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Trust, taxi associations, municipal officials, the film and publication board, as well as outraged parents and others from the private sector.
“I’m not fighting anyone. My porn movie was aimed at job creation.”
“If you don’t like beef, you don’t have the right to burn down the butchery. This is not a new business. There is porn in Gauteng and KwaZulu- Natal and people don’t fight it. Why fight me?” he asked.
Mbulaheni Neluvhola, chairperson of the traditional healers association in Vhembe, said Madega was trying to invite a curse on the Venda tribe and people should stand up against this action.
He said sex was meant for adults, not youngsters.
“Madega should stop his porn movies because it will cause sexually transmitted diseases to be spread.”
“The government and scientists are having sleepless nights trying to find a cure for HIV and aids but Madega seems to be ignoring that,” said Neluvhola.
Speaking on behalf of the Thohoyandou police, Maj Mashudu Malelo said the police would comment on the matter when they released their statement in this regard next week.
