Tubake family now has a place to call home

AS part of their Mandela Day celebrations on Friday, Capricorn FM and Vharanani Properties officially handed over a fully furnished house to the Tubake family at Seleteng village in Ga-Mphahlele.
The family of 10 shared a one-roomed shack and will now move into a three-bedroomed house with a kitchen, dining room, bathroom, toilet and a study for the children.
The hand-over was attended by Capricorn FM and Vharanani Properties personnel, government officials and Seleteng residents, who spent their 67 Minutes for Mandela by planting fruit trees and flowers across the yard of the house.
Vharanani Properties CEO, David Mabilu, encouraged the new homeowners to look after the property so it would last.
Mabilu said it was the company’s vision to assist those who are less fortunate by improving their lives.
“We were very touched when we heard that this family, which is headed by a pensioner raising her nine grandchildren, did not have a roof over their heads. This is the reason why we did not hesitate to join Capricorn FM and to build this family a house,” said Mabilu.
He called on the business fraternity to help the poor. “How do you feel when you go to bed on a full stomach while your neighbour does not even know where their next meal will come from,” he asked.
Capricorn FM managing director, Cyril Chetty, said the station did not help people because they expected favours in return.
“As a station that operates in the province, we strive to play a role in making sure the well-being of our listeners is a priority and we are proud that we have made our mark by making sure the Tubake family will sleep in comfort,” said Chetty.
The head of the family, Maria Tubake, said: “even if I die tomorrow, it will be in peace because I am certain my grandchildren have a home”.
