POLOKWANE – The Palestinian Solidarity Coalition together with the ANC Limpopo and Polokwane residents marched to the premier’s office on Friday to hand over a memorandum regarding the Israel attacks on Gaza.
The memorandum also requested the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador to South Africa, Arthur Lenk.
According to the memorandum, the indigenous people of Palestine have suffered under the brutal murderous Israeli occupation force since 1948.
The memorandum suggested that Israeli products should be banned and Israeli citizens should not be allowed entry into South Africa.
The memorandum also included a request that local municipalities should not sign contracts for goods and services with Israeli companies to make the municipalities Apartheid Israel- free zones.
The premier, Stanley Mathabatha accepted the memorandum and said he would deliver it to the minister of international relations and cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
“What is happening in Gaza is heart breaking and brutal, and we believe that the international council will come up with a solution to the situation,” said Mathabatha.
He said it was sad to see women and children being killed every day in Gaza.
“It must be stressful to go to bed not knowing if you will wake up in the morning.
“During the Apartheid era, we at least knew that we would wake up the next day,” he said.
The Capricorn mayor, Gilbert Kganyago, said the Israeli attacks were worse than the South African Apartheid era.
