Little thank you with Friendship Tea

POLOKWANE – Since their mother died of cancer 20 years ago, Delmarie Zamparini and her sister, Eileen Schofield, decided to give the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) a little help each year in return for the support given to their mother in her time of need.
Each year, Delmarie and Eileen host a Friendship Tea where they raise money to be donated to Cansa Limpopo, specifically for the Theunis Fichardt Hospitium. The hospitium uses this money to buy necessary equipment like fridges, beds and linen.
Last year, Cansa used the money to buy eight beds and bedside tables. This year, they bought new linen and curtains, as well as eight comfortable armchairs.
“We do this in remembrance of our mo-ther. She was looked after by the nurses from the hospitium, and this is our way of saying thank you. Our first tea produced very little money, but we kept on trying, and last year we made R54 000,” Eileen said.
“We at Cansa really appreciate this gesture and we would like to thank not only Delmarie and Eileen, but also everyone who attends the tea each year,” Adri Ras, regional manager of Cansa, said.
