A little helping hand to the needy on Women’s Day
KATLEGO Suzan Phala, a member of the Limpopo Legislature, said it was women's responsibility to stand together.
KATLEGO Suzan Phala, a member of the Limpopo Legislature, said it was women’s responsibility to stand together.
Phala spoke at Tikiline Springfield in Senwabarwana on Saturday during the hand-over of sanitary towels, which she donated to needy women in the community.
“We should always celebrate, but we should also stand tall like the women of 1956. We should continue where they left off. We are here to lay a foundation and raise awareness of abuse, something a lot of women face,” she said.
“Some women still use paper and pieces of cloth during their periods.
“We should not only celebrate Women’s Day, but give to the needy. We should hold hands regardless of our circumstances and make sure the foundation that was laid today continues.”
Minkie Tjumana, a DA councillor in the Blouberg Municipality, said Women’s Month should be celebrated in style.
“Women’s Day is an important day because women are the back bone of communities. “As the DA, we have realised that there are still challenges in communities, most women are not educated and are unemployed,” said Tjumana.
One of the beneficiaries, Enough Mohlaloga said she was grateful for the donation.
“I am happy that the DA and Katlego came to our rescue. They showed us that they care about us. We struggled to buy sanitary towels because most of us are unemployed.
“I hope they continue to assist more people who are in need,” said Mohlaloga.
