Rubbish dumped on the roofs of these buildings

POLOKWANE – The roofs of several buildings in Excelsior Street are being used as a refuse dump with bags of refuse and other discarded debris heaped on the roofs on a daily basis.
After a fire recently destroyed a building in President Paul Kruger Street just over a week ago, this is an enormous cause for concern to the municipality. The refuse poses a huge risk of fire and will also enable a fire, should it occur, to spread.
Municipal spokesperson, Malesela Maubane, urged residents to stop disposing of their rubbish in such a manner and to only use official dumping sites as indicated and run by the municipality.
Residents claim street vendors use the buildings to dump their waste.
One street vendor, Sarah Malamelani, said she made use of the buildings’ roofs that were reachable, because the waste would have been left on the pavement, as there were not enough waste bins available.
Problems with waste remo-val can be reported to the municipality at (015) 290 2000 or to the waste management section of the municipality at (015) 290 2366.
