Police warned residents that security would be extremely tight at the Polokwane high court tomorrow (Tuesday)

Police warned residents that security would be extremely tight at the Polokwane high court tomorrow (Tuesday) in anticipation of the start of the Julius Malema trial that would start today.

“Police officials will monitor and patrol the area around the court as well as the city centre and certain identified areas in Seshego. Our aim is to ensure peace and stability. No lawlessness will be tolerated and those who break the law will be arrested immediately,” said Limpopo police spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi.

He added that security would also be tight at the Nirvana Community Hall where a night vigil was scheduled from 18:00 yesterday (Monday), as well as the motorcade and planned march into the city centre today.

Residents are cautioned to take note that the streets around the Polokwane Court will be closed for traffic from 06:00 today.

This includes :

• Schoeman Street from Thabo Mbeki to Bodenstein Street;

• Landdros Mare Street from Thabo Mbeki to Bodenstein Street; and

• Hans van Rensburg Street from Thabo Mbeki to Bodenstein Street.

Mulaudzi said these streets would be permanently closed and advised motorists to avoid the area around the Polokwane high court.

He said the community was also cautioned to expect disruptions in the traffic flow in the mentioned areas of the city.

There would also be disruptions in the traffic flow on Tuesday morning from Nelson Mandela Avenue down to Marshall Street to the court, where a supporters march was scheduled to take place.

“Only a limited number of people will be allowed into the court room. Tight control will be enforced by members of the private security company at the court as well as the police.

No dangerous weapons will be allowed onto the court premises as well as surrounding areas,” Mulaudzi emphasized.
