POLOKWANE – The municipality has blamed the change of season for the neglected gardens in and around the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.
This was in reaction to complaints by residents over the state the gardens are in. Review also visited the area and found the area unkept.
Referring to the poor state of the gardens, municipal spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene said: “we are coming off winter and there is nothing we can do, we just have to wait for the plants and trees to bloom again as the season is changing.

We water the gardens regularly and put fertiliser (in) as well.
The garden architect planted seven different (types of) grass seed and the grass depends on rain because it grows naturally. It must grow high and dry, so that the seeds can fall off before we can cut it,” Chuene explained.
Residents also complained that after a festival or event at the complex, it allegedly took the municipality three weeks before they cleaned up.
“There is rubbish everywhere you look and broken glass on the field and in the streets,” a resident said. Chuene denied this allegation.
“Whenever there is an event at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex, we clean the stadium the next day.
“Unless the event is on a Friday or Saturday, then we clean on Monday, but never later than that.
“We try to remove all the glass from the road, but it is difficult to remove fine glass.”
