THE Greater Tzaneen Municipality launched phase two of an electrification project at Mohlaba-Cross village last Wednesday.
The project will see 500 households connected to electricity in the area.
Greater Tzaneen municipal councillor Edney Ntimbane, spoke during the handover ceremony where the project was handed over to contractors and engineers.
He said the project would cost R4,8 million and was expected to be completed in six months’ time.
Ntimbane said the community of Mohlaba-Cross would have access to electricity, which would make life a little easier for them.
“They will be able to make use of electrical appliances to improve their quality of life.”
He said despite limited financial resources, the municipality made it a priority to connect electricity to as many households as possible.
He urged the community to ensure that work proceeded well and to guard against vandalism and theft of the material.
One of the residents, Patience Malatji, said their children and domestic animals would be safe now that they had legally connected electricity.
“A lot of animals died as a result of illegal electricity connections in the area,” she said.
Phase one of the project was completed in July 2013 and benefited 500 families in wards 18 and 32.
