A FORMER head of the transport department, Ntau Letebele (44), appeared before the Naphuno magistrate’s court in December last year following the death of a suspected robber, who died after he was assaulted.
Provincial spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said two other men were also suspected of being robbers and were also allegedly assaulted.
Also appearing with Letebele was his son, Neo and another man, Hosea Moagi.
Mulaudzi said the three accused allegedly suspected three men, Nthabiseng Tshehla, Clifford Machimana and Philemon Mohashane of committing a business robbery early in December last year.
He said the suspected robbers were allegedly kidnapped from their homes and held in a storeroom where they were locked up and assaulted.
“They were found by security personnel patrolling the area. One of the suspected robbers, Tshehla, died from his injuries and Mohashane and Machimana were taken to the Sekororo Hospital and treated for serious injuries,” Mulaudzi said.
Letebele handed himself over to the police on December 15 2014 two days after the police apprehended his son and Moagi, Mulaudzi continued.
Mulaudzi said Letebele and his co-accused were charged with murder, kidnapping and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
They were released on R7 000 bail each and were due to appear before court again on January 30.
As part of his bail conditions, Letebele had to hand over his firearm and passport.
