Classes at Polokwane TUT campus suspended

Classes at the Polokwane campus of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were suspended from 12:00 on Monday.

POLOKWANE – Classes at the Polokwane campus of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were suspended from 12:00 on Monday.

It still unknown when the campus will reopen.

The decision from management followed recent protest action at Pretoria campuses over student funding.

In September classes were also suspended after violent protests by students because of a shortfall on National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding. The students caused extensive damage to university property and threatened the safety of students.

The students were seemingly upset because NSFAS would only fund half of the university students who qualified for its loans and bursaries and the result was that 10 000 students across TUT’s nine campuses would possibly not be funded.
