TLC children ecstatic over their brand-new prosthetic eyes

Four children from the Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) oncology ward at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital returned from Pretoria on Thursday, where they underwent operations to receive prosthetic eyes.

POLOKWANE – Four children from the Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) oncology ward at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital returned from Pretoria on Thursday, where they underwent operations to receive prosthetic eyes.
These children were diagnosed with eye cancer and their eyes had to be removed in order to save their lives.
After their eyes were removed, they found it difficult to live with only one eye and TLC realised that something had to be done.
TLC arranged funding for the prosthetic eyes, which cost R8 500 each, not including facial reconstruction that may have to be done due to damage by the cancer.
TLC received funding from Mitchell House learners, Yasmeen Ghoord and Sakira Hassim, as well as funding from a Mall of the North bridal show, where the brides and grooms raised money for the children.
In total R100 000 was raised for the children.
“We know having to live with only one eye at such a young age must be hard for the children and we are happy that they can now live normal lives,” said Bobby Were, TLC facilitator.
TLC thanked everyone who contributed to making the operations possible for the children.
