MUSINA – THE Musina Municipality allocated R6,3 million for the upgrading of access roads and the project is expected to be completed at the end of June.
The scope of work in this much-awaited initiative included the upgrading of 1,8km of streets, from gravel to paving blocks, construction of pavement layers, storm water management, edge beams, road markings and signage.
Municipal spokesperson, Wilson Dzebu, said this came after public consultations and working with residents and different stakeholders within ward 3 of Musina.
“The advantages attached to the construction of the access roads in Matswale are many.
“Residents will not only find it easy to commute from their doorsteps to their destinations, but 10 local residents are now able to support their families as they are temporarily employed by the contractor,” he said.
Vincent Munyai and William Muleya are two of the residents who gained employment through the project.
Munyai said he had been trying to find a job for a long time.
Muleya said he had nearly given up all hope of being employed.
“I am very happy to have this opportunity. The money I earn goes a long way in putting some food on the table,” Muleya said.
Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Nkhumeleni Ramuntshi said work was progressing well and they were confident that they would be able to meet the end of June completion deadline.
“I am inundated with praise every day. People tell me about the advantages that go hand in hand with this road. We are also grateful that we are contributing to job creation in this area,” Ramuntshi said.
Residents were also happy about the development in the area.
Virginia Nari said it was great to have a modern road right at her doorstep. “This is evidence that our municipality is doing its best.”
