Woman injured in Limpopo shooting dies – police

A woman who was injured when a gunman shot her and her mother in their Limpopo home, has died in hospital.

LIMPOPO – A woman who was injured when a gunman shot her and her mother in their Limpopo home, has died in hospital.

Hermina Mangena, 40, died in the Letaba hospital outside Tzaneen on Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Her mother, Mary Mangena, 63, was shot dead and she was wounded when the man barged into their Sasekani, Ritavi, home without saying a word on Tuesday.

When asked what was wrong, he started shooting, Ngoepe said.

Police found the two women in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds. Hermina was still alive and taken to hospital.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect was in love with the deceased’s younger daughter,” Ngoepe said at the time.

The two allegedly had a fight. The younger daughter was not home at the time of the shooting.

“Domestic violence cannot be ruled out as the motive behind this brutal attack,” Ngoepe said.

The alleged shooter, 35, fled in a white Volkswagen Polo with two other men. Ngoepe said police received information that they were on their way to Johannesburg.

No arrests had been made but police were following up information from local residents.
