MARBLE HALL – WHEN Phineas Sambo (57) stopped to pick up hitchhikers on a stretch of road in the farming area of Toitskraal last Thursday, the last thing he expected was to be involved in a car hijacking.
Sambo was hijacked of his 1991 Toyota Hilux with registration number: CA276549.
According to Marble Hall police spokesperson, Const Lethunya Muroa, Sambo was on his way from Marble Hall to Siyabuswa when he saw two middle-aged men hitchhiking and stopped to pick them up. “After the complainant picked them up, one of them produced a firearm and pointed it at him. They squeezed into the car on either side of him, drove the vehicle into the nearest bushes, and ordered him to alight. As soon as he was out of the car, they drove off.
“Sambo walked until he came to a busy road, where he sought help from a passerby. He then went to the police station where he reported the hijacking.
“We are currently busy with the investigation,” Muroa said.
Also in Marble Hall, the police are investigating a case of murder after a body was found in the bushes at Mamaneng village in the Moutse West area.
The dead man’s body was found by residents last Thursday, and they immediately alerted the police, Muroa said.
“The police officials who went to the scene found that the deceased had several bullet wounds in his head, chest and left arm. Several used cartridges were also found next to his body.
“The man could be aged between 26 and 30 years. Since the deceased’s identity is not yet known, we are requesting residents to come forward with information that could lead to finding out who he is,” he said.
