A COLLISION between a truck and a minibus on the R101 at the Sebediela off ramp on Friday afternoon left more than 16 people injured and one dead.
MOKOPANE – A COLLISION between a truck and a minibus on the R101 at the Sebediela off ramp on Friday afternoon left more than 16 people injured and one dead.
The 33-year-old Tapelo Charles Lebelo, driver of the minibus, had to be extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Pietersburg Provincial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the truck turned right on to the R101 and ended up in front of the minibus that was driving towards Mokopane, causing the minibus to collide head first with the back of the truck.
“When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found patients lying all over and trapped in the minibus.
“Patients were assessed and injuries ranged from minor to critical,” reported Chitra Bodasing, ER24 spokesperson, in a media statement.
According to a media statement by Mmadikgale Masingi, spokesperson for the Mokopane police station, 17 passengers were taken to various hospitals for medical treatment.
Oly one of the passengers, and the driver of the truck were not injured.
Masingi said a case of culpable homicide was opened and further investigations will be conducted as the cause of the accident is still not clear.
