POLOKWANE – Overall success was achieved by a joint operation between the police and members of the city’s community policing forums over the past weekend.
The operation was embarked on in a bid to stamp out crime and crime-related activities and was viewed as a success by Polokwane police station commander, Brig Tom Shingange.
During the operation, stop and searches were conducted and several items were discovered and confiscated and arrests made.
During the operation the following was found:
• 23g nyaope.
• 761g marijuana.
• 1 plasma television set.
• 36 pillows.
• 2 knifes.
The following arrests were made:
• 23 undocumented foreign nationals.
• 1 suspect arrested for dealing marijuana.
• 1 suspect arrested for being in possession of marijuana.
• 1 suspect arrested for being in possession of dangerous weapons.
• 1 suspect arrested for possession of implements used to break into cars.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala said the arrested individuals would appear before the Polokwane magistrate’s court soon.
Shingange issued a stern warning to people within the Polokwane policing area to refrain from any criminal activities over the Easter weekend.
“The police urge residents to stay out of trouble while the police will be undertaking similar operations without prior announcement in a bid to have a friendly and secure Easter weekend and living environment for the people of Polokwane and the surrounding areas,” Shingange said.
