LIMPOPO – Limpopo traffic authorities indicate that the number of road deaths is low compared to the same period in 2014.
Traffic spokesperson Kagiso Mootane says at the same time in 2014, there were 41 road deaths compared to 35 in 2015.
Heavy traffic volumes are expected from Sunday afternoon until Monday on the province’s major routes, especially the N1 towards Gauteng.
There is also high visibility of traffic officers on the N1
Traffic spokesperson Kagiso Mootane says over 1 000 traffic officers have been deployed on the major routes, including the R71 between Tzaneen and Moria and the Moria and Polokwane route.
“As from Sunday afternoon we are expecting a high rate of busses and small vehicles that will be coming from church. As from 12h00 they will be driving back. We advise our motorists to keep a safe following distance and refrain from speeding. Our traffic officers will be there monitoring them with visible patrol.”
Some travellers who crossed the border to Zimbabwe for Easter holidays have also started making their way back into the country. There is also high visibility of traffic officers on the N1.
