Fire response vehicles for Vhembe

VHEMBE District Municipality recently acquired 10 new fire response vehicles to service the area.

LOUIS TRICHARDT – VHEMBE District Municipality recently acquired 10 new fire response vehicles to service the area. Acting general manager for community services in the Vhembe District Municipality, Ntshavhiseni Demana said the newly acquired fleet was purchased at R5 million.

The decision to purchase Land Cruisers in particular was made as “these vehicles could cover long distances in a short period”.

“We want to ensure we respond to fire related incidents on time,” Demana said.

She commented that some of the existing vehicles were too old for this purpose.

The municipality plans to procure more vehicles, to assist two newly opened fire stations – Vuwani in Makhado and Xigalo in Malamulele.

“We will allocate two vehicles to Ramushwana Fire Station in Thohoyandou as well, two to Vuwani, two to Xigalo and two to Makhado.”

Mutale and Obed Mashaba in Musina will receive one vehicle each. During the handover of vehicles to the various fire stations on Monday in a function outside the Thohoyandou parliamentary chamber, the Vhembe district mayor, Tshitereke Matibe said he hoped the newly purchased vehicles will make firefighters’ work easier and speed up service delivery.
