15 year wait for clinic in Moletjie region

HEALTH facilities, roads, water and sanitation remain a serious concern to Moletjie residents.

MOLETJIE – HEALTH facilities, roads, water and sanitation remain a serious concern to Moletjie residents.

Residents raised these challenges during a 2015/16 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultative meeting which took place at Chika High School in Ga-Mabitsela on Saturday.

The consultations continued to various other parts of Moletjie on Sunday.

Pensioner, Jay Jay Mokoka (74) said he was concerned about the promises made by the municipality which were never fulfilled. “We have been sending so many letters to the municipality regarding the clinic we were promised 15 years ago yet nothing has happened so far; it is like the municipality is failing us,” Mokoka said.

Another concern, raised by Thomas Nakeng (59), was that they did not have a high school in their village and had been asking the municipality to assist them. “We have been asking the municipality to assist us in building extra classes for more than five years but to date we have not been assisted. We were promised mobile classes but we have never received even a single one,” Nakeng said.

According to Aganang mayor, Maria Mokobodi, it was important for residents to attend such meetings and raise concerns as this would give the municipality an idea of what was still needed by communities. “People’s views assist us a lot when it comes to service delivery,” she added.

Municipal spokesperson, Peter Moruthane, said they prided themselves on the good work they had done in previous years.

“We have built more than 10 crèches as we promised. All our clinics are fully functional and we are still going to deliver better service to our people to gratify their needs,” Moruthane said.
