Three murder accused back to court in June

THE three men who are facing murder charges in the recent taxi violent killings in Mokopane are still fighting for their freedom.

MOKOPANE – THE three men who are facing murder charges in the recent taxi violent killings in Mokopane are still fighting for their freedom.

On Monday Desmond Machaba (48), Samuel Matjila (55) and Patrick Sekhu (55) appeared before the Mokopane magistrate’s court in connection with the death of Mogalakwena Residents Association (MRA) member Charlie Ngidi and taxi owner Gideon Fatane.

Police spokesperson, Const Mmadikgale Masingi, said they had confiscated four firearms, three allegedly belonging to the suspects while the fourth allegedly belonged to Fatane.

The case was postponed to June 30 for further investigations.

The recent killings triggered anger among members of MRA.

The association’s spokesperson, Thintha Mokhonoana, said: “We are convinced that these criminals are linked to the recent killings which took place in this town, including that of our founding chairperson, Piet Pale.

“We will not rest until we ensure that the long arm of the law deals with them. We want to see justice being done and by justice we mean they must rot in jail.”

Since the recent fatal shootings the township of Mahwelereng and Mokopane town have experienced sporadic shutdowns where businesses were closed down and schools were disrupted.

People were frequently left stranded as public transport was unavailable.
