TZANEEN – THE police in the Bolobedu area outside Tzaneen have launched a massive manhunt for the suspects who shot and killed a taxi driver in the early hours of Saturday, April 25.
Tzaneen cluster police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said on the day of the cold-blooded slaying, Tshepo Selopjane (36) of Bellevue in the rural community of Bolobedu, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen.
“From the information we have gathered, the deceased was shot and killed after transporting passengers from Gauteng to his home village. When he arrived at Ga-Matshwi, the gunmen shot him several times, killing him instantly.
“When the police arrived at the crime scene, the deceased was found lying dead in the driver’s seat and the suspects had already fled.
“At this stage nobody knows exactly what happened because only the deceased was found in the taxi. The motive behind this killing is still unknown, but taxi-related conflicts cannot be ruled out and police investigations are still continuing,” Ngoepe said.
