Residents say ‘I can’ at leadership seminar
I Can Leadership seminar in partnership with the I Can Leadership Institute Africa and Capricorn FM was held at The Potter's House Church in Polokwane last week.
POLOKWANE – “LEADERSHIP brands are thoughts, feelings and ideas that your colleagues and clients hold in their minds about who you are and what you stand for,” said Dr Richie Achukwu during the I Can Leadership seminar held at The Potter’s House Church in Polokwane last week, which was held in partnership with the I Can Leadership Institute Africa and Capricorn FM.
According to the founder and president of I Can Leadership Dr David Molapo, their mission was to build the nation through leadership development, education, networking, coaching and mentoring.
He said it was their first leadership seminar, which would be held in all nine provinces.
“Our target was to reach at least 3 000 people from students to business owners, but we have exceeded that number. The seminar started in Tzaneen then Thohoyandou, and people are showing a great interest. Others even travelled from far to be part of this,” said Molapo.
He said the seminar was a way to give back to the community by restoring hope and motivating people to work hard towards their dreams.
Molapo said there was a lot of potential in the province, which needed to be groomed.
He addressed the audience about how to lead in difficult times as “leaders are not made in a crisis, but were revealed in crisis”.
“Leadership is not easy and one must be prepared because there are challenges such as critism and rejection along the way. Leaders need to take control of their lives and be tough in difficult situations. You need to take risks and be creative,” he said.
The Capricorn FM directing manager, Nkai Khojane, said he was happy to be part of this initiative as they wanted to change people’s lives and help them start their own businesses.
“We want to teach people to believe in themselves and know that they don’t have to rely on government and companies for employment, said Khajane.
He said they would host these seminars regularly so they could reach more people.
Ignacious Maledimo, a BSC student at the University of Limpopo, was one of the attendees at the seminar.
He said being part of the seminar was a great experience and he learned not to underestimate his abilities, and wanted to make a difference in his community.
“I believe I have what it takes to be a leader. I intend to work hard so that I can be successful.”
