17 books later and he still wants to write
"The book relates to people's daily lives. I made it more interesting by making the stories short so they can stay interested at all times" award winning author, Mmbengwa Watson Mbulaheni
LIMPOPO – MULTIPLE award winning author, Mmbengwa Watson Mbulaheni of Khubvi village near Thohoyandou says now that he has retired from teaching, he will have time to focus on his writing.
The former principal of Thenzheni Primary School retired in April. He has been at the school since 1987.
He recently published his 17th book titled, Zwa Tshitangani, a collection of Tshivenda short stories.
“The book relates to people’s daily lives. I made it more interesting by making the stories short so they can stay interested at all times. If one is a frequent reader, only five minutes is enough to finish reading one story.
“You can quickly ease your mind with this collection while waiting for public transport, cooking or relaxing,” he says.
Mbulaheni says the book comprises of 14 short stories.
“The real life stories include A mbo Rothisa Mitodzi, O Tangana Nazwo, Munyanya Ngavhe u vhe Mulovha and Zwi Dina Zwi Tshi da Henefha. All the stories are written in simple and clear language that allows the reader to enjoy the brilliant usage of the Tshivenda indigenous language.”
Despite his success as an author, Mbulaheni says there are people who played a developmental role in his writing.
“I will not be doing any justice if I don’t pass my gratitude to all the people who encouraged me to keep writing. It will be impossible to mention all their names because there are many.”
And what does the future hold for this versatile author, businessman, farmer and community builder?
“My plan is to assist young writers to develop their writing skills and ultimately publish their works.
“Those who want my books, including, the latest one, can get them at MW Mbulaheni Booksellers at Makonde village, north of Thohoyandou or call me at 082 533 8881,” he says.
