PwC is restructuring, not closing down

There is no truth to the rumour that PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is 'closing down'.

POLOKWANE – There is no truth to the rumour that PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is ‘closing down’.

Pierre Cronjé, partner in control of the region (Mpumalanga and Limpopo offices) refuted this rumour, saying what was currently happening was a normal business decision to restructure PwC. “Two partners in the Limpopo office will take a part of the business to operate for their own account in future,” Cronjé explained.

Cronjé said PwC was definitely not closing its doors and had no plans to leave the city. “There are a lot of experienced people at PwC to service existing clients,” he added. Any queries regarding the restructuring can be referred to him at (013) 754 3511.

George Malan and Derrick Venter from the local PwC office as well as Christine Espach will be establishing their own firm as from July 1. “We will be delivering the full spectrum of services: accounting, tax and auditing services and we are very keen to tackle the new challenge. We believe in, and are committed to, the people in Limpopo,” Malan said. The three partners have a combined experience of more than 60 years in the accounting and auditing field.

More details about the firm and where it will be situated will be revealed in Review at a later date.

According to a source who wished to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the matter, PwC offered retrenchment packages to some of the personnel. It was not known how many people were approached and what positions they occupied at the firm. It was rumoured that some people had already been retrenched, but according to Cronjé nobody had been retrenched so far. “In a restructuring process there are always positions that are not needed any more. No decisions have been taken so far and we are still in consultation with personnel,” he said.
