LIMPOPO – IN an effort to give back to the community, Mrs South Africa 2015 finalist, Mampa Sekoba-Diakanyo, launched a cleaning campaign, A re Kgoreng at Samuel Thema Primary School in Seshego on Saturday.
Sekoba-Diakanyo said the campaign allowed children to learn in a dignified and presentable environment, which would also encourage them to come to school every day.
“The campaign targets all rural and urban schools and is based on improving the school environment,” said Sekoba-Diakanyo.
She said she chose the school as she was a former learner.
“Cleaning the school is a way of giving back to the school, learners and the community,” she said.
Sekoba-Diakanyo said she wanted to change the lives of the less fortunate through her campaign.
“Working to help the communities and the province was always my wish during my childhood and this platform has enabled me to be a voice for young people throughout the country.
“We should think for our people and communities before we move to other cities. In this Mandela Month, we should use our skills and knowledge to develop our communities as a way of fighting poverty,” she said.
One of the teachers, Rachel Molema, said she was happy to know that a former learner helped the school.
“We feel very honoured and privileged. This really shows that we have played a huge part in their lives. We hope that this great work will continue to our neighbouring schools and the province as a whole,” said Molema.
