Kwenisto is born to rock the airwaves
Thobela FM radio presenter, Makwena Makgakga (30) wants to change the lives of young people for the better through his radio show
POLOKWANE – Thobela FM radio presenter, Makwena Makgakga (30) wants to change the lives of young people for the better through his youth show called, Moswa le Bokamoso.
Makgakga, better known as Kwenisto, was born in Moletjie and completed his matric in 2006. In 2007, he furthered his studies at the University of Limpopo (UL), where he obtained a degree in media and communications.
He says he developed his love for radio at an early age and grew up wanting to work in radio. “In primary school, I used to pretend to be a Thobela FM presenter to entertain my classmates. I could imitate each and every presenter and I knew from then on I would work with them one day,” he reveals.
He adds people used to tell him from early on that he has a good radio voice and could easily become a talented radio presenter.
Kwenisto says when he learnt on his arrival at UL that the university has a campus radio station, he did not hesitate to join.
“I applied to work as a volunteer presenter, but was shocked to be turned down several times and was even told that I was not a good presenter. That still did not stop my dreams of being a radio personality.
“My big break came later on in 2007, when I passed the news reading audition at the radio station I am still with. I worked in the newsroom for a few months before I was moved into programming where I think I represented myself well,” he says.
“My focus was always to work for a well-known corporate company and I am happy my dream came true. As a young person I found it very easy and not challenging at all to work with the youth. I didn’t have to put myself in their shoes because I am already in their shoes by being young myself.”
Kwenisto is also featured on SABC 1’s reality show called Future Leaders and is a popular motivational speaker.
