LIMPOPO – Joyce Shirinda, a musician from Mavalani village in Giyani has music running through her veins.
The niece of the Xitsonga artist, MD Shirinda, Joyce was recently awarded as best vocalist at the Independent National Gospel Music Awards.
“I realised that the success of every person comes through the presence of other people in that person’s life,” she said.
Joyce’s stage name is Joyce Makgauta.
She is a social worker by profession, but is involved in music over the weekends because she loves it.
She is currently working on her first album to be titled Grace and Mercy, which is intended to be her reflections of how she grew up.
Although she loves music, Joyce is convinced that her work as a social worker has also shaped a part of her personality and she feels strongly about helping other women to find their feet.
“I would like to own some kind of a care centre where I would be able to help women who have lost hope or have been abused in their lives,” she explained.
